Default WTS: Character Paintings

I AM NO LONGER ACCEPTING NEW COMMISSIONS

Alas, I have so many already queued up, that I could be working for months before I get to the end. In time, I will hopefully re-open for new works; however, saddly for new comers, that may be a while.

After having been prompted to enter Sectus' competition regarding the lovely mesmer Sanra Sprinkleworth, I was reminded just how much fun it is drawing characters Add to that the fact that I've recently come on hard times in GW (8th PvE character needing 15k armour, and barely enough gold to feed my skill-merchant addiction...) And I've decided to put my artistic talents to work.

An example of the kind of work I produce can be found here Grey Fox's Art

All the work is done inside photoshop at high resolutions and then the final version output to a high quality jpeg file. Other formats could be arranged if you so desired them.

Now, as fun as these pictures are, they take a decent amount of time, a conservative estimate would be 1-2 hours for the sketching, maybe another hour for the basic colouring, and then at least 4+ hours for the final "digital paint". If you add in to the equasion the background and that time can almost double again. All in all, that comes to around 7-8 hours for a character sketch, and at least 10-12 hours with a background, quite possibly more. The reason I bring this up, is that my prices may seem a little high at first, and maybe they are, but after browsing these forums, and asking fellow guildies on suggested pricings, this is what I've come up with. Now then, on to the particulars:

What I offer:
  • Character Sketch: 25k
Black and white sketch of your character. This is artistically speaking one of the most demanding parts, it's where the idea has to be born, the pose, the armour, the weapons. Before I start the sketch, I'll ask you what you'd like from your picture. Not just the obvious questions (the character, the armour etc) but things like what kind of mood do you want (dark menacing feel, humorous, hero-like etc)

  • Digital Character Painting: 50k
On top of the basic sketch, you get the full colour treatment; that funky pink druid armour just wouldn’t be the same without a dash of colour, that lovely iridescent aegis would have all its splendour brought out with the addition of it's lusterous tones. The full digital paint-over offers hours worth of highlighting and subtle hand-painted blending, making them true works of digital art.

  • Full Digital Painting (Character + Background): 100k
Days worth of loving time and effort goes into a work like this, it will be somthing unique, portraying the mood and style of your character. The high price tag may put many off, but for those willing to splash out, I can offer nothing more than this.

  • Forum Avatars + Signatures
If people would like their finished image converted into a forum avatar or sig, I can do that within minutes, and is free of charge. All you need to do is tell me you want one, and provide the image dimensions (Usually no larger than 100x100 for an avatar, and around 300x100 for a sig), and any text you would like (character name, guild name etc).

  • Extras/Special Requests:
Text and general messages you want displayed in the picture will be free of charge, just tell me what you want and where you want it, and I’ll stick it in. I'll try my best to accomodate other special requests and discuss pricing where appropriate. In general, I'll be more than happy to talk to people about what they want from a picture, and if anything is unclear with my pricing guides, or if you want somthing that doesnt fall into these categories, I'll try my best to sort it out.

  • Group Portraits/Multiple Characters per image
Numerous people have been contacting me about group portraits of their characters, having recently worked on one such image for a competition, I've decided that the extra work entailed in drawing multiple characters would push the cost and time above what I'd like to spend on each person. Thus, I've decided that I'll be limiting my portraits to a single character per commission.

  • Delivery
Upon completion of the drawing, I will post a medium sized preview picture here, for self advertisement as much as anything else, once I recieve payment, I'll send you the full resolution version.

What I expect from you
  • Before I start any work at all (even preliminary sketches) I will want a 10k down-payment, that may sound harsh, but I’m an honest guy, and I won’t be ripping you off (if for some unlikely reason I couldn’t finish the work as promised, I’d guarantee a full refund). The reason for this cash upfront approach, is that I don’t want to be dealing with people that mess me around. I simply want to ensure I won’t spend days working on something for nothing.
  • A brief idea of what you’d like from the picture. Preferably you’d supply some base images of your character, along with some ideas of how you’d like to see them. I don’t mind using my own initiative, and a brief consisting of “Make this character look cool!” suits me fine, just bear in mind that my idea of cool might not be the same as yours :P The more you tell me about your character and how you want to see them, the happier I should be able to make you.

Just a quick note to say that I'm glad for all the interest, but I'm currently working on 3 pictures at the moment, I'm taking notes on those interested though (both in game, via email, and from these boards) and will let everyone who's shown an interest know when I have time to do some work for them. Also, I'm somewhat surprised that everyone is going for the full 100k images, it's good because I'm getting rich, and producing lots of lovely work, but it takes a lot longer than if everyone was requesting simple sketches ^_^

Ok folks, just a quick message to say that I'll not be doing multiple characters for people. This is purely because there are a lot of people wanting these done, and I think it would be kind of unfair if I took on 2-3 works all for the same person, whilst other people are wanting one. So for now, I'd prefer to stick to one character drawing per person ^^

Good stuff, indeed. Wish I had more coin to spare for such a full color painting, since a good portion of it will go into equipping my charries with Nightfall stuff later this month, and of course, there's the one artwork I had Mr. Clavel of RP Visions work on as a result of last spring's contest, and the one that Taelith was doing, so I'm not sure at this time on which of my characters goes next should I decide to see your fine works of art involving one of my other charries.

It's my comission of Shan that grey drew above, and I have to say it was a complete honor and pleasure to work with him. The fiinshed article was just what I wanted, and was improved no end by Grey's suggestions and input.

The idea was, that Shan is fed up of trying to choose what to wear from her armor collection(it's a mesmer thing mm'k) and so is just taking a break, something that grey captured perfectly.

The finished work is nothing more than stunning, and to me, the output plus the whole process made this one of best 100K i've ever spent

Very highly recommended.
